IS THIS YOUR MOXIETOWN?

Does this town check your boxes?

  • We love this town for a weekend (or longer) getaway. With an emerging foodie scene, established king of Texas BBQ mantel, art galleries and live performances - there is a lot to do in this town! Architecture buffs will love the preserved structures. AirBnB is your best bet for a wonderful stay!

  • The time to catch a wave here is now. There are available storefronts - but not many; room to grow as the downtown has space to expand. The town is extraordinarily supportive of new businesses.

Broadband and cell service is mapped to be strong here and we found it so. There is not a designated co-working space to date (11/23) but Chapparal Coffee Shop stands in as a good hub and stand-in - and the owners are bullish on growth and community.

  • Wide open space, affordable housing with over 60% owning their own home. Conversations tell us there are a lot of multi-generational homes here so there are eyes on the little ones. This is a tight community that is family oriented. Crime is slightly above the national average. Schools are fair with the closest private school over 20 miles away.

The median age is only 37.3, so the town is trending younger which naturally means more single. There is definitely a lot to do by way of entertainment and community engagement. With the cities of Austin and San Antonio so close, we think that this town would be a great fit for many singles.

While this is a remarkably young town, with all the energy and creativity that comes with it - the % of Boomers+ is only a little over 18%. (not uncommon to see over 23% in small towns) The one negative that might be driving this is that the closest hospital is 20 minutes away, and 32 minutes to a Trauma 1 hospital in Austin. If you are healthy and enjoy the company of a vibrant young town - we think you should take a look!

THE UNIQUE MAGIC INGREDIENTS

SPARKS & Vibes

A white note card pinned with a gold push pin shows text reading "THE LOCKHART VIBE BBB2 Central" with the words "BBB2 Central" in red cursive font.

The way we see it, SPARKS are the places, events, activities that you remember about a MoxieTown, the ones that set them apart, the ones they are known for, & make a lasting impression.

Vibes , on the other hand, are that all-over feeling you get from a place, its unique ambiance.

Lockhart has a vibe of BBQ Central. BBQ is what attracts more visitors & keeps them coming back again and again. Downtown is stirring something particularly amazing & offers even more.

The Downtown Scene

Anchored by the stately, historic Caldwell County Courthouse, Downtown Lockhart is as vibrant and cohesive downtown as you could hope to find. Most buildings are original and historic and filled with emerging new businesses. Sidewalks are wide, seating abundant and varied, and trees planted throughout the most generous parking surrounding the entire square. While BBQ is king here, new eateries offer residents choices and quality that they used to have to drive to Austin for!

How we look at demographics, other than education choices

We are looking at small towns everywhere and, so that our fellow small-town fans can really compare “apples to apples” as closely as possible, we use a 3-mile radius for most all of our demographics, 1 mile if we are talking specifically about what is within walking distance to the heart of town. Because when you are talking about who lives in a town - you don’t really care about who provides their water or where they pay their taxes.
