Winter does end. Eventually
Walpole experiences a four-season climate, each bringing its own palette of experiences. We warn, as we have been warned, that a northern winter can feel like it will never end. From talking with long-time residents, the months of March, April, and even into May can be very long, with the earth not ready to reveal its tender green shoots and the excitement of the first snow a distant memory. It is not for the faint of heart, but if you can make it through to when spring really arrives – you will be richly rewarded!! Walpole, in particular, comes alive with lilacs and green gardens.
Spring
As winter's frost finally gives up its grip on this New England town, Walpole springs to life in a riot of colors. Flowers bloom, and the town is painted in soft hues of green and pastel. Residents often prepare their gardens for planting, and there's a palpable excitement in the air for warmer days ahead. You must be patient, though, as spring can arrive in earnest as late as the middle of May.

Summer
Summers are warm and sometimes humid, but they have light humidity – not the sweltering type you find in central Florida. It is pretty delightful to be in Walpole in the summer! The sun-kissed days are perfect for enjoying the town's outdoor beauty. Residents seize the opportunity to go outside, hiking, biking, and gardening. Occasionally, you will be glad or wish you had an air conditioner, but you will survive without one as long as you have a solid fan.
Fall
As if summer weren’t spectacular enough – Fall is when Walpole wears a golden cloak of yellows, oranges, and reds. Residents often partake in traditional autumn activities, such as apple picking, or just driving around to marvel at the fiery foliage. It's also the time to start preparing for the colder months - stocking up on firewood, winterizing homes, and pulling out the cozy sweaters.
Winter
Winter in Walpole is a snowy wonderland with over 10 inches of snow each winter month – and then the mud that follows as it all melts. The town glistens under a blanket of white, with icicles adorning every nook and corner. Residents, well-acquainted with the New England winters, ensure their homes are well-insulated. Snow tires, shovels, and salt are essentials. Activities like sledding, skiing, and ice skating become the town's favorites. They are likely followed by sitting by a roaring fire with a good book and glass of a warm beverage!
