An appetizer of Portsmouth’s foodie scene

Word is that Portsmouth has more eateries per resident than any other city in the country!!! Well, we find that one that we can embrace and are excited to explore!

Let's kick off this culinary expedition with Moxy, I mean, we had to didn’t we?? This is a gem that specializes in modern American tapas. The small plates here are big on flavor, showcasing the best of New Hampshire's local produce. It's like a tasting tour of the region, all in one cozy setting. We like that they have a heart for community where you can drop by for a drink and a few snacks with friends or co-workers or have a full-out dining experience. The chef and owners have racked up too many awards to list but we think makes it a safe first stop!

Next, step into history with a modern twist at The Black Trumpet, This destination is nestled in a building that's been standing for two centuries, the restaurant offers a menu that's a delightful fusion of global flavors. From Mediterranean to Middle Eastern, it's a gastronomic world tour without leaving Portsmouth. We love watching the special dinners that they offer from time to time.

So close to the coast, we have to have something for seafood lovers, and this could be just the place. Jumpin' Jay's Fish Café is a must-visit. Located near the Piscataqua River, the café offers a seafood experience that's as fresh as it gets. But if you're in the mood for something different from the norm, Cure offers a farm-to-table experience with a menu that changes with the seasons. This woman chef owned restaurant is quite a destination.

So, we have you set for a few of the most talked about dinner destinations, now, let's talk cocktails. The Franklin is a hotspot for craft cocktails, where mixology has come into an art form. Whether you're into classics or experimental concoctions, their cocktail menu is a liquid adventure. Another noteworthy mention is Row 34, known for its oysters and an impressive beer list, but don't overlook their cocktails—they're equally remarkable. Did you know they have a new cookbook coming out this fall?  With visiting chefs and features of their oyster farmers – this restaurant has a deep presence in the neighborhood.

And for those with a sweet tooth, La Maison Navarre offers a little slice of France right in downtown Portsmouth. From macarons to éclairs, it's a dessert lover's dream but that is not all.  Seriously it is like you dropped right into Paris!  Can you say bistro, wine bar & pâtisserie all in one? If you want a sugar rush –just head over to their Instagram feed.

Come to Portsmouth with an appetite for discovery. The dining scene here isn't just about eating; it's a culinary journey that spans flavors, cultures, and even time periods.

Yes, and we have not even talked about lunch or breakfast yet.
