A girlfriends weekend in Thomasville
We love planning a great girls weekend, so we decided that a series of itineraries for girls weekends was in order! Sometimes the girls want to get away and play tennis, go horseback riding or spend time on their shared craft. For the first in our series, we escape to the small south Georgia town of Thomasville. This small town has so much going for it - we will likely be returning with new itineraries.
It starts on a Friday
So just imagine, four friends, once roommates in college, arriving from three directions on a spring afternoon. Leaving the congestion of Atlanta, Birmingham and Tampa behind, they find themselves greeting each other with laughter, knowing they will be strolling arm-in-arm along red-brick streets lined with stately oaks and charming boutiques in no time.
Arriving Friday afternoon, our friends check into the newly opened Courtyard Thomasville Downtown. Thoughtfully redesigned to blend seamlessly with Thomasville's historic character, this stylish hotel offers modern amenities and is ideally located within walking distance of the town's vibrant heart. For those craving a more intimate experience steeped in history, Thomasville Bed & Breakfast provides accommodations in a beautifully restored Queen Anne Victorian home, complete with luxurious linens, period furnishings, and a wraparound porch perfect for leisurely sipping sweet tea.

Along the way, they'll savor delicious bites from renowned eateries like Sweet Grass Dairy Cheese Shop and Grassroots Coffee Company, discovering why Thomasville is celebrated as one of America's best small-town culinary scenes.
Friday evening brings another highlight: an enchanting outdoor concert at The Ritz Amphitheater and Park. The picnic they put together from the Sweet Grass Dairy shop on Main Street is a luscious spread, just enough to graze over after filling up on the food tour. Set in "The Bottom," Thomasville’s historic district, The Ritz offers a picturesque backdrop for enjoying live music beneath starry skies. Surrounded by the bustling town and local eateries, it's a magical setting to set the stage for a wonderful weekend together.
A full day ahead begins early
Saturday morning dawns bright and inviting. After a leisurely brunch at Savannah Moon Bakery & Cafe downtown, the friends set out for a day filled with delightful discoveries. Shopping in Thomasville is an art form: boutiques like The Hare and The Hart offer curated selections homegooods and accessories, each piece unique and thoughtfully chosen. As the friends contemplate their next book club choice, they stumble into The BookShelf where a knowledgable staff suggests a few new releases. Choosing one, they are on their way to Southlife Supply to indulge in a beautiful tote made in Thomasville. This is one of their favorite things to do each year - buy a matching bag to carry their new bookclub selection.

After a morning spent treasure hunting for antiques, house goods and one of a kind apparel, it's time to indulge in an afternoon wine tasting at Farmer's Daughter Vineyards + Tasting Room. Located right on North Broad Street downtown, this charming tasting room offers guided tastings paired perfectly with artisanal chocolates or cheeses—a delightful way to relax and savor each other's company.
As evening approaches, they get ready for their dinner at Jonah's Fish & Grits. Renowned for its refined twist on southern comfort food—especially its legendary shrimp and grits—Jonah's is an absolute must-visit. While they had a bit of this delicious fare the night before - tonight they take in the entire menu. Imagine plates of blackened grouper paired with creamy cheddar grits, accompanied by fresh hush puppies drizzled with sweet butter—a meal so unforgettable.
The late evening is spent on the patio of their hotel, enjoying southern wines and cool breezes through the live oaks. They continue to catch up, retelling the same stories they share from years gone by, sharing new ones from their hometowns and growing families. Their hearts are really full of friendship and a charming weekend i this small town.
Until next time
Sunday morning arrives gently, inviting the group to enjoy another delicious breakfast at their hotel. Thomasville remains committed to the traditions of an old southern town and their is rarely a shop or restaurant open on Sundays - but the churches are bustling.
As they drive away Sunday afternoon, taking a detour to go by the historic BIg Oak. It is an icon of this small town, older than our country and truly something to behold. Their hearts full from shared laughter and memories, the friends agree: Maybe they shouldn’t wait until next year to return?
