A delicious stop in a red caboose!
The Caboose in Rutledge, Georgia, is a delightful dining spot that offers a unique experience steeped in the town's railway history. If you have any young passionate train lovers, this will be a must-stop! I wish I had known about this during the many years we spent hours watching trains go by at the railyards everywhere we traveled. Located at 102 W Main St, this cozy eatery is housed in the last caboose to travel the Rutledge rails, which now sits proudly in the center of downtown Rutledge.
Since opening its doors in 1996, The Caboose has been serving up a variety of deli sandwiches, homemade soups, and ice cream, all accompanied by good vibes. Over the years, Ed and Mollie, the owners, have expanded both the menu and the space, while ensuring that the friendly atmosphere remains a constant.
The menu at The Caboose is known for its specialty sandwiches, homemade sides, and desserts, including great burgers, sandwiches, and for those with a sweet tooth, homemade brownies, cake, and pie. It's a place where you can enjoy a casual meal in a setting that's both nostalgic and welcoming.
The Caboose is also recognized for its affordability, with a price point that promises cheap eats under $10, making it a great spot for a casual lunch without breaking the bank. With outdoor seating, it's a perfect place to enjoy a meal on a sunny day in Rutledge while you wait for the shoppers lingering in the hardware store.
While they do not accept reservations, it is a casual and friendly kind of place - they have generous hours and a menu that will please everyone with you!
