Each year, the North Georgia mountains shimmer with strings of lights, Victorian storefronts, and the unmistakable magic of a real small-town celebration.
The festivities kick off November 28 with the Lighting of the Square. As dusk falls, families gather around the historic courthouse for live holiday music and carols. When the switch flips, downtown comes alive with twinkling lights—setting the stage for a month-long celebration, turning off the lights the first week in January.
From Black Friday onward, the sound of horse-drawn carriages echoes through illuminated streets. Historic Hancock Park glows with the Festival of Trees, each sponsored by local businesses and lovingly decorated. Santa resides by the big tree on weekends through December 21 (except Parade Day, when he’s the star attraction!). The annual Christmas Parade, set for December 13, brings together floats, marching bands, and community groups in a heartwarming procession through the heart of town.
The celebrations continue with Christmas Markets showcasing handmade goodies and gifts, an Art Market filled with local creativity, and Victorian Christmas Teas for a cozy afternoon treat. The Historic Holly Theatre dazzles with seasonal performances, while Dahlonega’s more than 65 unique shops and local restaurants make every visit a new adventure.
Dahlonega isn’t just about events—it’s the warm smiles at the visitor center, the neighborly volunteers, and the magic of traditions handed down for generations for all ages. From hiking to wineries, mountain air to gourmet dining, life here is slower, sweeter, and always aglow at Christmas.
Whether you come for the lights or linger for the warmth, Dahlonega’s Old Fashioned Christmas promises a season wrapped in gold and twinkle.
